Following the passage of Bill 37, exciting changes are coming, including a new name and expanded mandate! In addition to our current responsibilities with respect to oil, gas and geothermal development, we will soon become the single-window regulator for the production of hydrogen, ammonia and methanol; have an expanded role in carbon capture and storage, and we will be known as the BC Energy Regulator. The BC Oil and Gas Commission (Commission) has released a new Vent Data Collection Template for data formatting as a complement to its Flaring and Venting Reduction Guideline. Both the template and the guideline are intended to support the requirements of the Drilling and Production Regulation (Sections 52.03 through to 52.06) related to venting from storage tanks, compressor seals, pneumatic devices and pneumatic pumps that started on Jan. 1, 2021 and will continue to come into effect until Jan. 1, 2023.

The vent data collection template is available on the Commission’s website; however, it is not a bulk upload template. The template is intended to be used as a tool to facilitate data collection for later upload into eSubmission and has been issued at this time to allow operators to effectively prepare in advance of the submission deadline. Bulk upload templates in eSubmission will be available to support actual submissions closer to the submission deadline. Permit holders are required to initiate data collection starting Jan. 1, 2022 for reporting starting on May 31, 2023.
