The BC Energy Regulator (Regulator) has updated the Transient Pressure and Deliverability Test (TRG) submission to include Diagnostic Fracture Injection Tests (DFITs).

DATE ISSUED: March 25, 2020

EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately

The BC Energy Regulator (Regulator) has updated the Transient Pressure and Deliverability Test (TRG) submission to include Diagnostic Fracture Injection Tests (DFITs). The Pressure ASCII Standard (PAS) Reference Guide has been updated to include the pressure test type (PRSTY) 50 (DFIT) and additional data fields specifically related to DFIT, including before-closure and after-closure analysis.

DFITs are to be submitted to the Regulator within 60 days of the end of the test, in accordance with section 73(3) of the Drilling and Production Regulation. As of June 1, 2020, a DFIT submission must comprise of one PAS file and one or more PDF file(s). While permit holders are strongly encouraged to use the TRG submission type for DFIT, the Regulator will continue to accept DFITs as TRGS submissions, provided a PAS file is included, until Dec. 31, 2020.

For more information, visit the Well Testing and Reporting Requirements Guide. DFITs are regularly used as a standard well test for unconventional reservoirs. DFIT data is analyzed to determine fracture closure stress, permeability and reservoir pressure. Collection of this data provides shared information for effective development of unconventional reservoirs in northeast B.C.
